When you hit the Maximize button, the Microsoft Windows operating system takes the window and, well, maximizes it. The MaxTo application intercepts this process and arranges the window as you want it. You see, MaxTo allows you to split your screen into multiple rectangular regions. When you maximize a window, it intercepts the maximize process and places the window into one of these rectangular regions – the region your mouse cursor is in, to be more precise.

A setup wizard will guide you through the installation process. Once the setup wizard is done installing MaxTo on your PC, your default browser will launch and you will be directed to a “Get started with MaxTo” webpage. Don’t dismiss this webpage! It explains how to change regions and it presents a list of keyboard shortcuts. For example: if the mouse cursor is in the main region and you hold Shift when maximizing the window, said window will maximize to the entire monitor.

A list of keyboard shortcuts is also presented in the Options menu. Speaking of which, from the Options menu you can pick MaxTo’s default mode: Active Mode or Passive Mode. When Active Mode is enabled, windows are maximized to their regions unless the modifier key is held. When Passive Mode is enabled, windows are maximized to their regions when the modifier key is held.

You can purchase two types of MaxTo licenses:
“No” Updates license – works forever, updates released within 1 month, support via email.
3 Years of Updates license – works forever, includes all updates for 3 years, priority support via email.

Thanks to MaxTo you can arrange windows as you see fit on your screen. Thanks to MaxTo you can maximize windows to custom regions on your screen.

Pros

As you can see from the Quick Look video that accompanies this article, there’s nothing complicated about installing MaxTo on a Windows PC. The developer posted a useful video presentation and created a useful “Get started with MaxTo” webpage. MaxTo automatically checks for updates at launch. You can set it so MaxTo automatically runs at startup. Lots of keyboard shortcuts. Lots of settings to play with.

Cons

MaxTo hasn’t been updated in quite some time.
